Reaching Out to
Share the Good News
On Sunday, September 17, we are placing
a special emphasis on inviting friends to come with us to church.
Inviting someone can be as simple as offering a ride, asking
someone to sit with you, greeting them as they come in, or maybe
arranging to go to lunch together after church. Let's make a
special effort to make someone feel that special warm welcome
that opens the door to hearing about God's love. Members may
pick up postcards to send to friends, extending an invitation
to HCC on September 17th.
Throughout July, the children at HCC have
been helping collect coins and dollar bills for the "Christmas
in July" offering. On Sunday, August 6th, they presented
HCC's offering to Dr. Ken Moore. The offering will help the Region
meet its budget for the year. Our regional outreach giving helps
minister to our area churches, provides youth camp programming,
educational opportunities for church leaders and pastors, campus
ministries, men's and women's leadership, new church development,
and much more. The check presented to Dr. Moore was for $126.31.
Good job, HCC; and thank you, Kiddo's!
Kamp Kaleo Junk
Jaunt planned for September 22-24 at Burwell
As a fund raiser for our youth camp near
Burwell, Nebraska, we'll be participating in the 3rd annual Junk
Jaunt, a 220-mile perpetual yard sale/flea market along Highways
11, 91 and 2, which will pass through Burwell, NE. For more details,
see article in the "FYI" section.
Neighborhood Carnival
to be held Saturday, Sept. 30
The Friendship Bridge group is sponsoring
the third annual neighbor- hood carnival. The train is ready
for riders and the ducks are all in a row for a swim. Here are
some ways you can help. We need:
- baked goods for the bake sale table,
- 2-liter bottles of pop for the pop walk,
- craft items to sell, and
- Lots of helpers.
The carnival hours are 11 am to 3 pm, and
we'll need folks to help with games, selling tickets, serving
the luncheon, manning the bake sale table, etc. A sign-up sheet
is located on the table at the back of the sanctuary. Pick a
time and activity where you can help, and sign up!
We have lots of fun events planned for
all ages - from toddlers to adults. Bring your grandkids, your
neighbors, and come enjoy a great day of fun and fellowship.
Pastor's Ponderings
What is your dream for Havelock Christian
Church? On Sunday, August 6, 2006, we began the discovery process
of who we are as a church, our core values, as well as our dreams
for the future. It was a wonderful opportunity to truly listen
and discuss our ideas about our church.
We cherish these core values:
- Smaller is better (not a mega church),
- Family aspect is important,
- Small church, big hearts,
- Size issues? What do we do?
- Come broken, leave fixed,
"Think outside of the box" regarding
our facility and placement in the Havelock community,
- Nurture each other,
- Cared and loved,
- Building friendships, new friendships,
- Communion every Sunday in Disciples churches
is a plus,
- Being the church for one another in times
of concern and joy.
This is how we describe Our Church:
- Unconditional love,
- Family,
- Caring,
- Home,
- Genuine,
- Friendship,
- The whole package,
- Giving,
- Understanding,
- Cohesive,
- Growing in God's love,
- Compassion
- Responsive
- Whole
- Loving, as well as caring,
- Youth
- Acceptance,
- Wonderful, warm, welcoming
- Forgiving,
- Welcoming with open arms,
- Belonging,
- Lasting friendships,
- Supportive.
These are our Dreams and Wishes for Our
Church:
- Every chair filled,
- Finishing unfinished projects of the building,
- New facility,
- Strong youth program,
- More youth - teens and kids,
- Church bell - calling people to church,
Evaluation of programs and activities of
the church (example, music),
- Look at change - new way of doing things,
- Youth Room, storage unit,
- Balance of change and traditions,
- Inter-generational spiritual growth,
- Focus on Everyone - whole church,
- Men's and women's fellowship groups,
- Be church for each person's needs,
- Continued dreams and prayers for our pastor
and the congregation,
- A building where each place has its purpose,
not having to rearrange the furniture all the time.
Now comes the time for us to begin the
process of turning our ideas and dreams into a plan for our future.
If you have a passion for making one of these dreams become a
reality, please contact Moderator Mike Yost,. We hope to form
a long-range planning task force to make our dreams a reality.
This is an exciting time in the life of our church family; we
have a few challenges to overcome and dreams to blossom into
existence as we seek to serve God in our community.
Love"Y'all."
In Christ,
Pastor Giovanna

A Word About Our
Honorees
Debra Herman
grew up in Havelock Christian Church. Over the years, she has
been active in Sunday School, youth activities, choir, Talent
Night, the Diaconate, and the Board. She is currently serving
as our public relations person, creating the many nifty posters
you see around the church and community advertising our special
events. Deb is great when it comes to ideas for special activities,
such as the carnival and the luau. Her biggest job right now,
in addition to being a wife and mom, is caring for her four very
special grandchildren.
Robert Niemeyer
is Alvin and Betty's # 1 son. He and his wife Diane
live in Hickman, NE. Bob has worked for the BNSF for a number
of years, and Diane works at the Norris Middle School. Son Eric,
a chemical engineer, works in Texas, and daughter Jessica
is a student at UNK. Bob, Diane, and Jessica recently returned
from a four-week trip to Europe, where they visited their former
foreign exchange student and some of Bob's family.
Tony Racicky
grew up in Beaver Crossing, NE. After moving to Lincoln, he met
and married Connie Shurter (daughter of Olive Montgomery).
Tony and Connie just celebrated anniversary # 44. Tony is retired
from the Lincoln Public Schools. In his spare time, he helps
Connie with her daycare youngsters, but his favorite hobby is
deer and turkey hunting with his sons. The Racicky's have three
sons and three grandchildren.
Pudge Adams
grew up in Havelock and has long been a part of the HCC family.
She and her husband Bill both worked at Goodyear for a
number of years. They are the parents of two daughters, Cheryl
and Lisa. The Adams' also have three grandchildren. Pudge
is Jean Holt's aunt.
Katheleen Lass
and her husband Tony have been living in Omaha for some
years now to be near a granddaughter, who looks in on them faithfully.
Katheleen and Tony were very active at HCC for a number of years,
where Katheleen served as Special Events Chair and was a leader
in women's fellowship. Tony was a businessman in Havelock for
many years, one of the co-owners of Bill and Tony's IGA at the
corner of 62nd and Havelock Ave.
Jack Rosecrans
has been a member at HCC since 1963. He was among the young men
from Bethany Christian Church who became attached to one of the
HCC young women in the FAD group (the BCC/HCC college-aged youth
group of the early 1960's). Jack and his wife Joyce were
among the last of the couples married in the "old church"
at 61st and Ballard. Jack has been a real blessing at HCC, serving
in just about every capacity one could name Moderator,
Treasurer, Elder, Builders Club president, choir member, Search
Committee Chair (each of those at least several times over).
He is recently retired from the Department of Roads (but still
does some special project work there). He also volunteers at
Bryan Hospital, is Dad to Jana, Grandpa to Michelle,
Zach, and Nathan, special friend to Minnie,
and brother to Jean Uarich and Joyce Weeks.
The Reverend Robert Arnold serves
as pastor to Lincoln's Southview Christian Church, but is also
a co-member at HCC with his wife Pastor Giovanna and children
Rachael and Zachary. Bob grew up in Houston, TX
and did his undergraduate work at the University of Texas. His
seminary studies were completed at Brite Divinity School, Texas
Christian University, which is where he and Giovanna met. Bob
has also done advanced study at Austin Presbyterian and is nearing
completion of his doctorate. He served churches in Illinois,
Texas, and Missouri before coming to Southview.
Jerry Cunning,
his wife Karen, and son Scott have long been a
part of the HCC family. Jerry is retired from Goodyear but stays
busy doing delivery work for the Lincoln Public Schools. Jerry
has served as a member of the Diaconate and as Property Chair,
and the Cunnings were involved with youth activities during Scott's
growing up years. Jerry and Karen have been devoting a lot of
time recently to family matters, due to Jerry's sister's illness
and the death of his mother.
Iowan Darrell Plumb first came to
Nebraska as a college student at Peru State College. Following
his graduation, he returned to Logan and Magnolia, Iowa where
he taught social studies and coached basketball for a couple
of years. He became interested in other opportunities; so in
1970, he became a manufacturer's representative for Colgate-Palmolive,
bringing the family to Lincoln. He retired from Colgate-Palmolive
in 1998, but a grocery brokering firm convinced him to work for
them for another five years. He retired the second time in 2003.
Darrell and his wife Fran have been part of the HCC family
for nearly a year now. They have three children and three grandchildren,
with another grandchild on the way.
James Buell,
like all of Maxine and George's children, spent
growing up years as a part of the HCC family. James graduated
from Northeast and attended the University of Nebraska. Following
in his father's footsteps, James works at the BNSF shops. James
is an avid electronics hobbyist -- (maybe that's how George got
interested in his "C" battery toys). James' wife Paula
works at Lancaster Manor. James and Paula provide a good home
for two very special cats.
Brandon Phillips
was born in Lincoln but spent most of his growing up years in
Eagle, Nebraska. After graduating from high school, he began
his working years as a welder. He is currently looking at some
other career options and is enrolled at Southeast Community College
focusing on computers this quarter. He says he's still trying
to decide if that's a good fit or not. Brandon and Jeni
have been part of the HCC family for almost a year now. Brandon
was a great help to Roger Hammons during the months leading
up to and following Roger's transplant, taking him back and forth
to many of his medical appointments. Brandon and Jeni enjoy helping
Roger with the youth group. They are parents to Lane and
Cameren.
HCC has been a part of Mary Bickford's
life from a very early age. She was active in Sunday School,
youth group, and youth choir in her growing up years. In more
recent years, she has been involved in a number of different
ministries - Chair of the Diaconate, Special Events, Talent Night,
Friendship Bridge, General Board, Welcoming Committee, Pastoral
Search Committees, Pastoral Relations Committee, Nominating Committee,
coordinator of candle lighters, and much more. Mary and Rick
are parents to Robert and Hope and grandparents
to Rayaunna, and Jarred. Mary's mother Claudien
Egbarts of Fairbury is a former member of HCC and a frequent
guest, and Deb Herman is Mary's sister.
Steve Miller
grew up in Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln High in 1966. He
served in the Navy during the Viet Nam War and was stationed
in Japan. After returning to the states, he and Teresa
were married and spent the rest of his Navy time in California.
When the couple returned to Lincoln, Steve went to work for the
printing firm now called Quebecor (formerly the Nebraska Farmer).
He has been with the firm for 34 years. Steve is an avid fisherman
whenever he can find time to drop his line in the water. Steve
and Teresa have been part of the HCC family for several years,
and they are currently developing the prayer garden on the west
side of the church. The Millers are parents of daughter Gina
and son Eric, and they have three grandchildren.
Merlin
and Jean Dana are celebrating anniversary # 55 this year.
The pair met in Lincoln after each had lost a spouse. At the
time they married, Merlin was serving as pastor at HCC, his pastorate
covering the years from 1943 - 1959. After leaving the pastorate,
Merlin pursued his printing hobby and worked until his retirement
doing printing for Notifier Corporation. After the children were
grown, Jean worked for Notifier and also for the Sun Newspapers.
Jean has just recently retired. They have both been part of the
HCC family since the 1940's, and have given freely of their time
and talents in the church. Both of them love animals and have
quite a reputation for their expertise in showing and judging
rabbits. In addition, the Dana's have other pets, including a
miniature horse. Over the years, Jean has refined her considerable
artistic ability and is producing some outstanding paintings.
She also does amazing handwork, crafts, and furnishings. Our
church has been richly blessed by the lives and gifts of Jean
and Merlin Dana over the years.

Gifts needed for Food Pantry - As we re-engage for our fall activities and
schedules, we need to remember that some in our neighborhood
struggle simply to get through the day. Homelessness and hunger
still exist, right in Lincoln, Nebraska, and sometimes among
families where parents are employed. Any food items that we can
share are needed and greatly appreciated. Our gifts to the Northeast
Pantry will be dedicated on Sunday, Sept. 3.
Communion will be shared with shut-in
members in early September - The
Elders and Members of the Diaconate will be visiting our home-bound
members and bringing the sacrament of communion in early September.
Due to the holiday, the elders will call to schedule a mutually
convenient time. Our home-bound members continue to support the
congregation with their prayers and interest, and both those
who bring and those who receive communion find a blessing.
New Choir season to begin September
6 - Do you enjoy singing? Then
we have a chair for you! Come join the choir as we begin the
2006-07 season with the first rehearsal on Wed., Sept. 6, at
7 pm. Rehearsals last just one hour, and we have lots of fun
preparing music for worship. Welcome one and all.
Special focus on education planned for
Sept. 10 - We will be honoring
our teachers and recognizing students on Sun., Sept. 10, as we
turn our attention to the importance of education and life-long
learning within the life of the church A small reception after
church is planned in recognition of this important day.
Come to an information meeting - Representatives from Thrasher Basement Systems,
Inc. will be at the church from 5 - 7 pm on Tuesday, Sept. 12,
to provide information and show pictures of how they propose
to fix the cracks in the church floor. The event is planned to
answer members' questions, so anytime during the two hours that
you can make it to the church is fine. As you learned in the
letter from Moderator Mike Yost, we as a congregation need to
decide how we choose to address this situation. Our thoughts,
prayers, and financial support will be needed.
Pastor Giovanna
will be bringing the afternoon worship at Mahoney Manor on Thursday,
Sept. 14 at 1:30 - Frances Young will be on hand to welcome the
Mahoney Manor family. Any other HCC members who would like to
join the group are welcome.
The Blackwood Brothers are returning
to Weeping Water! The Blackwood Brothers Gospel Quartet will
present a concert on Friday, September 15, beginning at 7 pm
at the Weeping Water High School auditorium. The event is hosted
by the First Christian Church of Weeping Water. A free-will offering
will be received. All are welcome.
Bring-a-Friend Sunday planned for Sept.
17 - The gift of God's love is
to be shared, and what better way to share it than by inviting
someone to attend church with us? While each week brings us that
opportunity, Sunday, Sept. 17 is lifted up with a particular
emphasis on inviting our friends and neighbors. Postcards have
been prepared that you can send to a friend to get the ball rolling,
or just pick up the phone and make the invitation. We look forward
to welcoming some new friends on the 17th.
Your help is needed to deliver flyers - On Tuesday evening, Sept. 19, at 6:30, all hands
(and feet) are needed to help deliver flyers about the carnival
throughout the neighborhood. Flyers, rubber bands, and maps are
provided. Several of our regulars will not be able to be there
that evening, so we need some new helpers. C'mon out! The walk
will be invigorating!
Kamp Kaleo Fundraiser, in conjunction with the Nebraska Junk Jaunt to
be Sept. 22-24 - - Do you have any:
- Collectibles/Curios
- Art or Handcrafted Items
- Antiques
- Western Collectibles/Cowboy Tack
- Nebraska Items & Farm Items
- Gently Used Items or New Items
- Old Wood Windows/Doors/Barn Wood
- Sporting Goods
- Iron Wheels, Small Implements
- (Example - Corn Shellers)?
- Cannot accept: Clothing, Firearms, or
furniture that requires more than two persons to carry.
If you have anything to donate, please
contact Jean or John Dale (467-1085).
We plan to be in Burwell to help get things ready and will be
glad to either transport items for the sale (as much as will
fit into our van) or make arrangements with the organizers to
transport larger things. If anyone would like to help with organizing,
pricing, or the sale itself, please let us know. Help is needed
from Sept. 14 - 24.
Mystery Tour scheduled for Saturday,
Sept. 23 - "Five Nickels"
and "If you follow the right one, you are in for some fun,"
are the clues that Jack has provided to date for this adventure
sponsored by the Builders Club. We need at least 20 people to
sign up to enjoy this outing, so that we can get a reduction
in the cost. Get your name on the list and plan on a fun event.
Transportation will be available. Leaving time from the church
is 4:30 pm. The cost will be $20-25 apiece for the evening.
Third Annual Community Carnival on Sept.
30th - Don't miss out on the fun!
Plan to sign up to bring something and/or help out. (See the
list of needs on page 1.) The time for the carnival is from 11
am to 3 pm. We're hoping for a good crowd from our church and
the neighborhood. The date should guarantee that we won't have
the 110 degree temperatures we had last year. If you haven't
had a chance to ride the little train yet, you should know that
it is "adult-friendly" and even accommodates long legs!
Come on out for a great time!
FYI
HCC Youth are going strong! The HCC Youth have literally "hit the ground
running" as we begin our 2006-07 schedule of activities.
We thank the church leaders and every member for your continued
prayers and support. We have had from 8 - 20 persons (youth and
adults) each week participating.
July, 2006, marked the initiation of
a Sunday morning youth class, suggested
by the Christian Education Committee, in order to better serve
the spiritual growth needs of middle and high school- aged youth.
The week of July 17-23, Kristina and Lacy Nimmich had the opportunity
t attend Focus Camp at Kamp Kaleo near Burwell. They would love
to tell you more about it.
On Sunday, July 30, the youth assumed many of the leadership roles
for the worship celebration and song festival.
During August,
we have been planning for and learning about our 2007 Youth Works
Mission opportunity (June 17-23, 2007) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
inner-city. This will be in cooperation with youth (6th grade
to college age) from other Lincoln-area Disciples churches. Our
expectations are that this trip will be eye-opening, heart transforming,
and soul strengthening. Fund-raising events will be held during
the next several months to help cover costs for our missionaries.
At the August 6th meeting, the youth suggested we should hold meetings every
Sunday in August, which we have been doing. They also selected
their leadership responsibilities for August and September as
follows:
- Meeting Leader: Cameren Phillips
- Recorder: Lacy Nimmich
- Lesson Leader: Kristina Nimmich
- Treasurer: Cody Hefner
- Clean-up Crew: Lane Phillips, Cody Hefner.
On August 13, the
youth were so excited to learn that they now would be able to
use the classroom next to the choir room. Following the evening
lesson, we did some housecleaning and planning for our new home,
which has been given the temporary (?) name, "The Sheep
Pen."
We'll host an open house sometime later this year.
Saturday, August 26, for most people, was the highlight activity of
the month, when a group of 20 HCC youth and adults attended the
"Kicking Off a Championship Year" Back-to-School Rally
at Lincoln Southeast High School. Prior to the rally, HCC youth
were given the responsibility of greeting those arriving at the
door and distributing programs. The rally featured uplifting
music by recording artists "Lasting Pearls" and "The
Livingstons;" plus an inspirational, thought-provoking message
by Crystal Woodman Miller, a survivor of the Columbine, Colorado
High School shootings. Youth (and adults) were challenged to
strive to make a difference, to share Christian values and connect
with others around them.
Another back-to-school event took place after church the next day, when the
youth journeyed to Champions Fun Center for a few hours of mazes,
games, and adventure. As you can see, we're involved, and we're
excited about our opportunities. - Roger Hammons
Pictures are taken for Pictorial Directory - Judy and Gene Seibert have finished getting
pictures taken for the HCC pictorial directory. The editing process
is underway, and we should have a new directory (with pictures!)
before long. Thanks to Judy and Gene for this significant undertaking
and to all of you for helping us get photo schedules coordinated.
Nominating Committee is hard at work - Gene Seibert, Anna Peacock, Jean Dana, George
Buell, and Jean Uarich are putting together the list of nominees
for officers for 2007. The slate of officers will be accepted
by the Board at an upcoming meeting and will be brought to the
congregation for approval at the November Annual Congregational
Meeting. Thanks, Committee, for your good work.
Christian Church Nebraska Regional Assembly
scheduled for October 13-15 in Kearney
- Every other year, the Christian Churches in Nebraska gather
for a regional assembly to select officers, hear reports, conduct
business, worship together, and enjoy fellowship. This year's
event will be in Kearney. At its August meeting, the HCC Board
approved delegates Jean Holt, Roger Hammons, and Shandra Yost
to represent our congregation at the business sessions. Alternates
also planning to attend include Mike Yost, Dori Yost, and Jack
Rosecrans. Pastor Giovanna, John Dale, and Jean Dale will also
be attending. An all-church registration fee was paid, so if
others wish to attend, you would be most welcome.
Reconciliation Offering to be received - On September 24 and October 1, we will be receiving
the Reconciliation Mission Special Offering. Half of our gifts
are used nationally for reconciliation programs, and half stay
in Nebraska. Our offering last year was $590! Let's see if we
can top that this year.
Kids' coats needed at Good Neighbor
Center - We have received word
that both new and "gently-used" children's winter coats
will be collected at the Northeast Food Pantry at Bethany Christian
Church (BCC) for distribution to needy families this fall. The
coats should be new or at least clean and in good repair. BCC
is hoping to collect 200 coats by October 1st. Let's see how
many we can collect at HCC to help with this worthwhile project.
Contact person needed to assist with
refugee resettlement - The City
of Lincoln does a very good job of helping refugee families get
a new start in the US. The various denominations take turns helping
with each new group of refugees that arrives. The Christian Churches
have been notified that a Ukranian family will be coming in three
or four months, and we'll be asked to help. Our help could involve
anything from collecting furniture to helping family members
get signed up for services, go for job interviews, find a doctor,
etc. A committee is being organized by the Lincoln churches,
and HCC needs to have a representative to serve on the committee.
If this ministry sounds like a calling in which you'd like to
be involved, please contact Pastor Giovanna.
In Our Church
Family
We send State Fair-time greetings to our
home-bound members, including Keith and Elaine Althouse,
Beverly Helmkamp, Tony and Katheleen Lass,
Alta Perkinton, Don Riblett, and Jim Donaldson.
We hope you've enjoyed the beautiful summer flowers and the cooler
days of late August and are looking forward to fall.
We remember those related to our church
family who are serving in the military, including Jeremy Bickford,
Missy Bickford, Greg Bissell, Vern Blackwell,
Josh Markle, and Jake Whitaker. We are mindful
of the great sacrifices that you are making on our behalf, and
you are in our prayers.
Elva Schuster
is healing slowly from a fall at her home in early July, where
she hit her shoulder and cracked the bone in her arm. The crack
is healing, but the shoulder remains very sore. We hope things
keep improving, Elva.
Jamie Peterson,
Les and Virginia Woodrum's granddaughter from Boston,
is waiting to have surgery, followed by chemo therapy. We are
keeping Jamie and her family in our prayers.
Les and
Virginia's grandson David Leung and his friend
made a final attempt with success toclimb the 13,000 ft. Grand
Teton Mountain in Wyoming this summer. They ascended anddescended
7,000 vertical feet, over 22 miles round trip, in a little over
14 hours, with the ascent to the summit only taking 6 * hours.
The elevation where they started was 6,000 ft. Wow! What an achievement!
Congratulations to Shandra Yost
for her successful summer as a resource leader at Kamp Kaleo.
We're so proud of you, Shandra!
The Niemeyers are looking forward
to a visit from son David and his family from Iowa over
the Labor Day holiday. We hope you have a grand visit, Alvin
and Betty.
We are keeping our students in mind as
they return to fall classes. Shandra and Kayla
Yost have returned to the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Shandra is in her senior year, and Kayla is a sophomore. Julie
Hefner and Brandon Phillips are at Southeast Community
College.Kristina Nimmich is a senior this year, and Lacy
Nimmich and Dan Herman are freshmen at Lincoln Northeast.
Rachael Arnold is a freshman at Lincoln High. Zachary
Arnold is an 8th grader at Millard Lefler and Cody Hefner
is starting 6th grade, his first year at Dawes Middle School.
Lane Phillips is a 4th grader at Pershing Elementary,
and Cameren is a 2nd grader. Amy Hefner is in pre-school,
also at Pershing. We hope you all have a good school year.
Best wishes to Lori and Mike
- Kapalau Beach, Maui, Hawaii was the setting for the May 20th
wedding of Lori Jordal and Mike Yoder. Lori is
the daughter of Sharon and Stewart Jordal. The
bride and groom are both employed at the headquarters of Walmart
and reside in Bentonville, AK. Grandma and Grandpa J. traveled
to Arkansas to take care of Taylor during the eight-day
wedding/honeymoon trip. The wedding was "fairy-tale perfect,"
according to Lori they were married at 6 pm on the beach
with the sun just starting to set. After the wedding, they had
a quiet dinner alone together. Mike is from Iowa and is a former
firefighter. Due to an injury on the job, he is now doing security
work. Mike's 5-year-old son Dylan goes to the same school
as Taylor. We're so happy for you, Lori and Mike!
We're also thinking of Jessica Hammons
and Mark Quy as their big wedding day approaches on Sept.
9th. Best wishes, you two.
Summer Kudos go
to . . .
Mary Reed
and Susan Moore, who filled in at the organ for me while
the Dale's
enjoyed a fabulous 6-week retirement vacation.
Kayla
and Judy Yost, who taught the primary Sunday School class
for the summer.
Hope Bickford,
who filled in with the kids' choir and Jean Holt for taking
notes at the Board meeting.
Roger Hammons, Jeni Phillips, Pastor Giovanna,
and all the others who are
helping with youth activities. Wow! It sounds like things are
going very well.
All who helped organize and set up for
the great fellowship dinner with the
Southview church family on August 27th. We had a wonderful turn-out,
and it was a
fun evening!
In Closing
Matthew 11:28-30 is a familiar scripture
to us, where Jesus says, "Come to me, all you that are weary
and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take
my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble
in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke
is easy, and my burden is light."
The paraphrase of that section from The
Message Bible spoke to me recently:
"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out
on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover
your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me
and work with me - watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms
of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep
company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."
Blessings.
